For my first service project this semester, I decided to help clean up the WGHS GOLD garden with some of my friends. I chose to do this as my project because I like being outside working and this would be fun to do with my friends. On the first day, I helped shovel mulch from the parking lot area over to the chicken coop and surrounding area. The work went fast because we had a group of dedicated people and an efficient system of moving mulch to the garden. We covered a lot of the area outside the chicken coop with mulch pretty quickly, only taking an hour, and got a nice solid layer covering the area. The second day, however, was a little harder as some people there didn't help at all. We four people moving mulch and spreading it on the chicken coop. We still got a good amount of work done that day though. We threw mulch into the fenced off area for the chickens to wander in and covered a lot of the area in there except for one of the corners where the trash bins and spider webs were. This second day of work also took about an hour. Overall, the garden cleanup was a fun project to do and working with good people made it more enjoyable. I'd like to do it again, but the only problem is it is hard finding time because I have a seventh period after school.
