Ben Fodor Garden Cleanup Service Project Period 1

For my service project this semester, I decided to help clean up the garden with some of my friends. I chose to do this as my project because it seemed like an easy project but also one that would be fun to do with other people. On the first day, I helped shovel mulch form the parking lot area over to the chicken coop and surrounding area. The work went by fast because there were other people helping who were committed to the work also, so that helped speed up the process quite a bit. We covered a lot of the area outside the chicken coop with mulch pretty quickly, only taking an hour, and got a nice solid layer covering the area. The second day, however, was a little harder as some people there didn't help at all. There were around four total people actually doing work the majority of the time while the other four didn't do much in the way of helping and instead stood around talking while waiting for their hour to be done with. We still got a good amount of work done that day though. We threw mulch into the fenced off area for the chickens to wander in and covered a lot of the area in there except for one of the corners where the trash bins and spider webs were. This also took about and hour and we also made good progress with the few motivated people we had that day. Overall, the garden cleanup was a fun project to do and working with good people made it more enjoyable. I'd like to do it again, but the only problem is it is hard coordinating work time after school as band is a 7th period for me, so hopefully there will be more time options available next time.
