Garden Cleanup

ESLP Garden Cleanup

On December 11, 2015 me and two others worked in the garden behind X104. My group and I worked on creating mulch for the plants inside the garden. We had to work with two piles, a pile with dirt which contained organic material within it and a pile of organic material that has yet to decompose.
This is the pile that has dirt with organic material in it.
The process of creating mulch was something similar to sorting trash. We started with the organic dirt which is shown above. We then put a small mound of the dirt onto a sift and we sifted the dirt much like how you would sift flour over a bucket. During the process of sifting the dirt we took organic material that has yet to decompose out of the mound and out them into the pile of organic material. After filling the bucket up with mulch we then poured the contents of the mulch into the mulch pile.
Here is the pile of mulch that we were able to produce within an hour.
Although the process of creating mulch was repetitive we found ways to entertain ourselves. After a hour's worth of work we were satisfied with the amount of mulch we were able to produced. This part of the garden clean up taught me something that I would eventually need in the future.
