This is the pile of mulch that is used in many of the gardens at Willow Glen High School. |
Last week, I helped cleanup the gardens by spreading mulch around some plants near the parking lot with some help from Mr. Bursch. First I used a shovel to scoop some mulch into a wheelbarrow. Then, I moved the wheelbarrow to the area where I had to spread the mulch. Then I dumped the mulch on to the soil and spread it with my shovel. I repeated this process until there was enough mulch on the soil. This process took about one hour. The newly spread mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep the plants from drying up. I enjoyed helping with the garden cleanup more than I thought I would. I learned that it takes a lot of work to maintain the beautiful plants I get to see every day when I am at school. I also learned that you can accomplish great things if you work together with people. As I said earlier, Mr. Bursch helped me spread the mulch and I wouldn't have been able to spread nearly as much mulch if I did this task alone.
