For my Ecology Service Project i did garden clean up. We had to move mulch in to a wheel barrel and take out the little pieces of trash. The mulch that was already there was wet and and kinda black. So we put new one on top of the old one. It looked way better when we put the new much on, because it looked new and cleaner.

Garden Clean-Up

For my ecology service project, I participated in the garden clean-up crew. Myself and two others were sifting threw the compost and sorting. We'd put a pile of compost onto a grate and let all of the smallest pieces fall into the bucket below. We'd throw that pile into the last section with the almost-complete compost.

I stayed for 1 hour. We did six buckets full of compost.

ESLP Garden Cleanup

On December 11, 2015 me and two others worked in the garden behind X104. My group and I worked on creating mulch for the plants inside the garden. We had to work with two piles, a pile with dirt which contained organic material within it and a pile of organic material that has yet to decompose.
This is the pile that has dirt with organic material in it.
The process of creating mulch was something similar to sorting trash. We started with the organic dirt which is shown above. We then put a small mound of the dirt onto a sift and we sifted the dirt much like how you would sift flour over a bucket. During the process of sifting the dirt we took organic material that has yet to decompose out of the mound and out them into the pile of organic material. After filling the bucket up with mulch we then poured the contents of the mulch into the mulch pile.
Here is the pile of mulch that we were able to produce within an hour.
Although the process of creating mulch was repetitive we found ways to entertain ourselves. After a hour's worth of work we were satisfied with the amount of mulch we were able to produced. This part of the garden clean up taught me something that I would eventually need in the future.

Garden, Clean up

Garden clean            up

The first thing i did was pick up all the plants, wood sticks,& ect. It was an easy work to do i just had to move it to the other side and clean the space like u see on the first picture the left side was full of plants and sticks and moved it to the right. The next thing i did was plant some plants on the bed, i plated like 12 plants on the middle bed i made a straight row on the front and on the back row i did another straight row of plants. Lastly, i plated 3 other plants and cut the grass. It was actually a fun day i was really into it and its a really good way to get distracted and have fun.

Pulling Weeds
My service project  was pulling weeds for the school garden. Weeds are plants that were not planted with intention and suck up water and nutrients needed for growing other plants. If not pulled they grow to be a couple of feet. So for my service project I did weed pulling in the school garden out by the chicken coop.
This makes the garden clean and healthy.

                                                    Aaron's Garden Clean Up

My part for the garden clean up was to dig mulch and place it in many spots needed some like the garden in frount of the nurse's office and the band classes. We stayed there for an hour and it was pretty fun and I felt good about helping the schools gardens. The mulch helps the gardens look better and it helps other things grow and  mulch does help the soil retain the water as well as evening out the temperature, keeping the roots cooler when it is hot and warmer when it is cold. It also suppresses weeds, so that is my favorite thing about it. Then it eventually breaks down and improves the soil.

Garden Cleanup ESLP 2015

We went out to the California Native garden #2. We Scooped the mulch and added to the spots that needed help. After adding the mulch we went back to back of the garden and worked on the compost. Compost is organic materials used as fertilizer for plants. We cut branches and twigs to add to the compost. Maintaining a garden isn't very easy because it requires many steps.

for my part of the garden clean I stayed for an hour and filled the island in the middle of the student parking lot and also the humming bird garden with mulch,we carried a wheel barrel to each garden and dumped the mulch over the areas that needed it

                                                     Garden clean up- ESLP 2015

We first brought mulch out onto the California Native garden #2 on Cottle Avenue. The mulch improves the plants growing conditions. Before adding the mulch we removed the weeds because it can effect the plant. After we added the mulch to the garden we went back to and worked on compost. Compost is decayed organic material used as fertilizer. We helped prepare the compost by cutting twigs and branches into smaller pieces so that they can decay faster. I learned that maintaining a garden isn't so easy, its not only planting seeds and watering them. There are so many things we can do like recycling organic materials such as leaves, twigs, fruit peelings etc. to improve gardens.

Garden Clean Up

My service project was helping out in the garden. I had to place mulch on different areas around the school.
First I grabbed the shovel and then walked over to the mulch pile. After that there was a couple of different people with a wheelbarrow and some other people and I placed the mulch in the wheelbarrow. After it was full we walked over to the parking lot and we spread the mulch around until it was all covered . We also spread some around in other areas in varsity lane.  The mulch is helpful because it helps plants from getting dry.

Garden Clean-up

When we did the garden clean up with Mr.Bursch after school we put on gloves and got a shovel. Then we had someone get a wagon to gather up the molch to help the garden grow and fertilize.I got my shovel and started putting molch in the wagon as soon as we got lot's  of molch then we headed to the middle of the student parking lot.We dumped the molch and spread it on the ground so the soil can be fertilize. After we went to other places around the school and putted molch around but first we had to throw away trash from the ground so the molch can work.It took lots of effort but it was worth it.Lastly when we were done we put the shovel back , the wagon, and the gloves. Its was very hard work but we left home after.

GARDEN CLEAN UP PROJECT

Hi, I am going to tell you about my garden clean up project experience.  Working in the garden helped me know more about how to take care of a garden and how to work with things there like how to sort a compost and what you put in it like food waste, dry leaves, sticks, etc.  The finished composet helps the plants in the garden to grow and be healthier, the natural waste and products the were in in are good for plants, we separate the composet in 4 compartments, each one more decomposed than the other and passing the compose from one to another every time it was ready until it was in the last compartment and after that it was all ready to be put in the gardens plants.  It was a really good experience because now we have more knowledge about composet and when we have our own garden we can be sure of how to take care of it and of its plants and animals.

Garden Clean Up Matthew Garbarino P.5

My service project was helping out in the garden by placing mulch. We carried mulch in wheel barrows from the main garden to the Mickey Long Center garden. We placed the mulch down with shovels while wore sombreros. I think that it was a great idea because the mulch covered up the dirt that was there before we covered it up. The mulch is very helpful when you are trying to grow plants. If someone ever want to plant plants there, the mulch would help them grow faster. Overall I think it was a good use of my time and I hope it will benefit the the school.

mulch madness {dirt}

My experiment was garden clean up . It was really messy and dirty well i that i thought because i don't like dirt . I worked whit my friend dulce and joclin. what we did was we put Mulch on the parking lot. then we clean up some garden and put more mulch to cover some dry parts and clean up the path for the humming bird garden also some hidden garden under the stair it was the most dirtiest their since some people eat in the stair so the trash false

ESLP 2015 Mulch Madness (Juan Lopez)

My experience with the garden service clean up was a very fun one. I worked with my friends, Jose and Uriel. Our job was to shovel dirt into a wheel barrel and carry it to our destination. What we had to do there seemed to be simple at first, but was actually tiring. We transferred the mulch onto a small garden located in front of the Mickey Long Center. Then, we dug up a small border to make sure we didn't put the mulch in the wrong spot. Shoveling grass looks simple, but is actually very difficult! After we finished, we took some pictures and the work was done!

Service project

PhotoMy service project was to help clean up the garden after school with a couple of buddies. So what we did was we took mulch from the parking lot and we spread it over the gardens on our campus.

PhotoAs you can see we have spread out mulch with gloves and shovels supplied by Mr.Bursch from the shed. And that is my buddies, and I am in the back pulling out the weeds as we were packing up.

Photo

This is what it looked like after we were done it looked nice. And at the bottom right are the weeds we took to the compost bin.

In this project, me and my fellow friends were getting mulch from the parking lot and transporting it to the garden. This wasn't as easy as I though but we worked together and it was a piece of cake. These are some of the photos that we took at the site of the gardening.

Also, to make sure the weeds don't grow back, me and a friend called Urial went to pull some weeds out. This was a little difficult, but we knew that to make sure they don't grow back we needed to pull them out.
We put the weeds inside this barrel. In Adition used the weeds we collected and put it as compost.

Jesus Farias garden clean up

This Friday i volunteered to clean up the garden for 1 hour in that hour we filled the garden with mulch. mulch is genarelly there to improve the soil around plants. it was pretty fun me and my friends enjoyed the garden clean up more than we thought we would.

ESLP Mulch Project 2015

On Friday, December 4,  we worked on cleaning the gardens and putting mulch on the gardens. This benefits the garden because it will help it grow. Mulch covers the soil underneath and improves the growth of the plants. The mulch keeps the soil moisture so that the plants won't dry up quickly. In the summer it keeps the roots cool and in the winter it keeps the roots warm.

Michael's garden clean up experience

IMG_0863.JPGI think the Ecology Learning Project is about giving back to the community that gives to us. It is also about teaching kids work ethic so our generation isn’t one that doesn’t do anything progressive and just mooches off what we already have and honestly as of now that’s how it’s turning up. For my service project I helped out with the many gardens on our school campus. I’m not going to lie I didn’t actually choose this I was given it due to the fact that I didn’t sign up to do anything. My experience there was interesting I actually like which I was surprised about. Gardening isn’t bad you can have a lot of fun with it if you have a positive attitude. It also taught me how serious the drought is and how much it’s affected the plants. I know for a fact that I have affected the lives of all of the plants by replacing the mulch. Also watering them doing anything to make them live longer. I have to say I actually like working, we have it to good these days I actually want to go out and work on something.
