For my first service project I did a garden cleanup! Since I did not complete it when I should have, I made up my hours later in the garden. In totally I did two hours. The first one, I went with a group of people to the outside garden (not the one by Mr. Bursch's classroom) and we went around planting some new seeds, picking up trash, and pruning a couple plants. There was a big tree with long leave-type things that were its seeds. The tree was very pretty and across the street there was an open area with just dirt, next to the fence where the pool is. Me and Nicole dug a couple wholes and planted the seeds. We planted a bunch because most of the seeds will probably not take. There was also a lot of trash around the garden, and seeing it all picked up and clean, made it look much better, and set a good example on our Willow Glen High School community. I worked for an hour and it was very tiring because I have never done that kinda of work before. The next time I did garden cleanup was just me and Andrew and we made great progress. Behind the garden there is supposed to be a walkway to go through it, but the plants back there were so overgrown and their were so many weeds that you could barely see over there. We went back and made a good pathway that is now cleared or plants and trash. Andrew is a very good pruner and he cut most of the plants very well. It took so much work that we spent the whole hour just cutting away at an overgrown weed. In the end we made a clear pathway, so now people can easily go behind the garden and it looks good too. I had made a pile that was overflowing and huge, the size of a wall almost. Andrew did the cutting and I took all the branches and things that were cut off, and gathered them into a pile. That pile was later taken by the real gardener and made into compost, I think. The second hour was definitily harder, but I'm almost sad that garden cleanup is over. I had lots of fun with my classmates after school, and i for sure learned some new gardening tips and tricks for next time!

Garden Clean up cycle #2
In the second cycle of service projects I decided to do garden clean up again. The reason I decided to do garden clean up again is because I enjoyed it the last eound and being able to make our school cleaner and nice for the chickens. This cycle I did something totally different i helped organize the shed with Morgan Fernadez. It was important for us to clean the shed because it helps the people who work in the garden be more easier to find what they need to use. Also by knowing where everything is at can allow for the next rounds eaier way to come in and out of the shed when needing certain materials. This is why what we did for our service prohect is so important.

Garden Cleanup #2 Morgan. F
In this garden cleanup I learn that wanting a healthier life or doing something good for life. Its hard work and that what I did with the help of my friends. We worked hard to the last garden cleanup to now to see this garden become something we are proud of, cause we worked hard to support this garden. Even if it was to clean the shed, the little's thing help are earth to grow and that was what we did, we worked hard to see our planet to grow. So by gardening for the second time my friends and I learn that gardening can be peaceful and hard work, but it was worth it, If it means we get to see this garden come from worn down, then it to grow,
grow into something amazing.

Christian De Jesus's Garden Clean up (1st Day)
"Soil" "Soil and Leaves"
Me and my brother decided to have a Garden Clean up together. I was assigned in the first day. I was to digging the soil to move the leaf to the ground to become Fertilizer it means we blended together and put water up and down the ground to soften the soil so that he could look into Fertilizer, so long as we move the soil or dilute the soil to become fertilizer. We have been in that part because there are hard things like wood, stone so we had to end it for a little time. We're even tired but our body is still strong because we don't think we get tired. Working on this project was hard because carrying the dirt was very heavy, but it was also fun and I enjoy the work because I worked with my friends as a team. So continue dilating. But Mr. Bursch also helped us to know what to do next but we did at last. And we've finished and we've got one hour or one and a half hours. I enjoyed working on this project because i learned how to take care of a garden and also so important this for everyone.
"Place of the Soil"

Christian De Jesus's Garden Clean up (2nd day)
In the second day of Garden Clean up. We went to the Hummingbird Garden. On the left picture I did there to dig or remove the weeds and put on the shelf for not being unclean looking. And i also remove the remaining leaves, and cleaned up trash around the tree and anywhere we could find some. And we finished at 30 Minutes.
"Sprayed Glyphospate in the Plant"
On the right picture. We learned from Mr. Bursch why the leaves still show up or still display, because the accidentally happened the sprayed on a plant is called Glyphosate, an herbicide applied to the leaves of plants to kill both broad leaf plants and grasses. So there was a reason why the leaves died.So keep the Trees, Plants, and the Leaves for the Nature. So it's important to know how the Nature are important like Trees, Plants etc. and do not destroy for the Nature.
Garden Cleanup #2 Salvador Sanchez
For my second garden clean up I shoveled and mixed fresh soil with dried leaves and dead plants. By doing this it gave the soil more nutrients from all the plants I was mixing. I also pulled some weeds and put it into the mixture. It in turn gave the soil more nutrients it usually doesn’t get because the roots of the weeds go really deep into the soil, which the soil normally doesn’t get.
For this service project i did garden clean up again for two hours. I helped to clean the chickens house. I put new tanbark in their little house this is helping them by giving them a clean environment for them to live in. They need a clean environment just like we do so that they can live in comfort and it should be cleaned every once in a while.

GARDEN CLEAN- UP
PERIOD.5
DATE: 11/27/18
DAY ONE
what we did was that we clean the walk way of
the story of the seed. I really enjoyed cleaning up
the garden. I like cleaning up with my friends.
we cleaned up the walk way for 40 minutes. After that we also put back the part that keeps the bark back broke. And we put it back together. we did that for like 20 minutes or so. After we were done we collected everything and put it back in the shed. This is what we did for the first day of
our clean up. And my partner was Angel Chavez.
Day Two
The second day was really fun. What we did was
we went to the mickey long center and cleaned up
there. we went to go help our classmates. we took the sticks and grass to the back the garden is. we used 2 wheelbarrow to take the stuff. We had to do 5 trips to clean up the mess. we did this for like 45 minutes. After we were done we picked up the little scraps on the floor. At the end we finished in and hour. We really enjoyed this as our Project.

Day two we had to do another garden and we had a little more help from fellow classmates from different periods. The mickey long center was a mess with broken and chopped off branches, so we prepared for this by bringing 2 wheelbarrows and we loaded them up and dropped them off back in a big pile next to a lot of bark. In the end we made about 5 trips back and forth but it was worth it for a another hour and just to help out the school this was my garden clean up we enjoyed it.

Fall Garden Clean up 2018 by Nikol. Post #2
Fall Garden Clean up.
On the second garden clean up, we finished cleaning all the dried seed pods off the tree. With all the dried seed pods that we collected, and some other seeds from another plant, we replanted them. We took the seeds and dug multiple holes in front of the middle school pool, which is right across the hummingbird garden. Hopefully one of the seeds will catch on, and a plant will grow. We also picked up even more trash, and pulled out unwanted weeds. By replanting seeds we start a new plant life. It helps keep our air clean by converting carbon dioxide to oxygen for us to breath during photosynthesis. Its beautiful knowing that you can help out on plant Earth just by cleaning up and replanting seeds. Keep doing good deeds. This is a picture of some of the seeds that we picked of the tree, and then replanted.

On the first day of garden clean up, we focused on a tree in the hummingbird garden. This tree was full of dried seeds hanging from it. It made the tree look very old, and almost dead. We cleaned up half the tree, and cleaned up trash around the tree and anywhere we could find some. By cleaning up the garden, we help keep the world and our school healthy and clean. If people in the world don't start picking up their plastic bottles, and pieces of trash then our world will die. We only get one Earth, we NEED to keep it healthy. If we can create some kind of good impact on society and they world by having high school students pick up trash, i think we are doing the right thing. This is a picture of the half cleaned tree.

In the second day of the Garden Clean up, I was assigned to pick up trashes in the other part of the garden. After this, we removed all the excess grasses beside the road and put it in the cart. I noticed and discussed with my teacher(Mr. Justin Bursch) about the dead-like plant when I was picking up trashes. Mr. Bursch told me that this plant was accidentally sprayed by Glyphosate, an herbicide applied to the leaves of plants to kill both broadleaf plants and grasses.

Fall 2018 Garden Cleanup
For our first day of garden cleanup, we were at the hummingbird garden. We picked up trash around the garden. This was difficult to do because some of the trash was under bushes and places that were hard to get to. Then we cleaned one of the trees in the garden by tearing off the dried up seeds on the branches of the tree. Finally, we pulled out any extra plants out of the garden that were creating too much competition for the other plants. On our second day of garden cleanup, we were in the main garden behind Mr. Bursch’s classroom. We used chopped up pieces of wood to fill the garden floor so it would cover up the chicken poop and make it look nice. This was kind of difficult because we had to carry the wood pieces in a wheelbarrow which would get heavy. Overall, it was fun.

Hugo Waterfall's Fall Garden Cleanup #2
In my two hours helping out around the garden, my partners and I worked with the compost stalls. We started off shoveling the woodchips out of one of the stalls and spreading them around on the ground. Our task was to replace these large, dry woodchips with better, smaller woodchips from another pile. When the stall was empty of the less efficient chips, we went back and forth between the stall and the better-woodchip pile to fill the stall back up. It took about five trips and seven completely full wheelbarrows to fill the stall. I believe these efforts have improved the garden and the entirety of the compost pile because of the fact that the compost will now be more effective in total.

Here on your right you can see that I tried to clean up the school by picking up the trash around our garden. It was hard because we had to go through a bunch of pocky plants just to get the trash from there. There was barely any trash around the garden and it was almost like we didn't clean it because barely anyone litters.
<----
Here on your right we have to move the dirt from one place to another. This was hard because the pile was getting bigger and bigger and it was harder for us because we had to place everything at the top of the pile. Another reason why it was hard to move this dirt from place from another is because this type of dirt is very heavy. At the end the 4 of us moved the dirt in 20min.

In my opinion I think this is great idea because the garden clean up project gave me some great experience that I can use for my own garden. Also this experience can me in other chores at home like clanging your back yard. I would recommend this experience to anyone because it will help you enjoy nature more.

My Garden clean up experience. By Carlos
I also helped clean the parking lot near the garden area. I cuts some weeds and i picked some garbage. I enjoyed working on this project because i learned how to take care of a garden and also the importance of not lettering.
My Garden Clean Up Experience
The only time I recall working in a garden was eight years ago back in 1st grade. So going into the garden cleanup in 9th grade, I thought that things will get complicated. But, surprisingly, things were pretty easy. When I first went in, all I had to do is put chicken manure, hay, and leaves on a certain spot and wet them so that way, the manure can decompose. That took me an hour and thirty minutes. On the last thirty minutes, I adjusted the stones that formed a shape around a pile of dirt. Doing this project (especially since the last time I did it was almost a decade ago), I thought it was cool cleaning up a garden.

In the garden we put new tanbark over the old one. The tanbark helped keep the chickens clean. I also helped to pick up trash that was left all over the tanbark. We had to keep it clean for the chickens to feel comfortable. It will be nasty if the tan bark was old and dirty and it would also not look noice in the garden. I also watered the plants for a bit. This is what I did for my service project in the garden.
Working in the garden allowed me to learn why certain things need to go in a garden. In the garden I worked on moving the tan bark, and putting it over the old tan bark. The reason why we had to put new tan bark because over time it gets old and the chickens poop on it and it gets really nasty. When we put the new tan bark the garden not only looks nicer but it also gives the chickens a cleaner place to live. The chickens are in a cleaner place because eventually all there businesses they do tbey will just walk in and when people go inside they will always be steping on the chickens business. This is what I dis in the garden for my service project and why its important.

For my part of the garden cleanup, I mostly participated in being handy with the wheelbarrow. I got some gloves and a shovel and began shoveling up wood chip mulch. I would then roll the big pile over by the open area by the fence and would dump everything out. Then, I would use my hands to spread an even layer until I needed to go go back for more. I repeated this until most of the ground was covered and only a small amount of wood chip mulch remained. Wood chip mulch covers the dirt and soil and protects rain and harsh weather from ruining it. It also keeps the dirt healthy and moist. The reason this is necessary is because we need to not only protect plants, but also the part of the ground where birds, animals, or any other abiotic or biotic factor could possibly destroy the healthy soil.
Honors_Biology-P2-Peltz-Will
The garden cleanup we surprisingly fun! Because we both had cross country practice everyday, we didn't have much time on our hands, so me and my friend both decided to choose this project. We spent about 2 hours one Saturday over fall break moving mulch in a few wheel barrows from the parking lot to the garden and then spreading it out. A lot of work had already been done, but we were still able to do a lot. It felt pretty good because I could see a big effect from my efforts. We helped the community by making the garden a better place that many can enjoy. It now looks much nicer and is easier to walk through. A lot of people will use this and even the chickens will benefit.
Biology-P3-Rojas-Jimena
In the beginning I didn’t really care for garden cleanup. But as I went for my first hour one day I noticed that this is very important to a handful of things. For example by contributing to garden clean up I can help the organisms that live around there, and the community. Seeing how much control I have over this was fascinating to me. This is why contributing was very cool and important to me. For my 2 hours of helping the community I spent my time carrying tanbark into the garden and spreading it around evenly around the garden. I made sure the garden was cleaned up and looked good for the community.
Biology-P3-Fernandez-Morgan
When my team picked garden clean at first it was for a grade, but working and going after school to work hard I learned something. Which was garden is very important to are world cause it helps everyone, gardening is like a big circle which helps every living to animal, bugs and even humans because it's how every living thing survives in this world. But I also learned that with out gardening we has a human and for the animal we would not be able to survive, for how we would be fighting over food for different animals fight to survive. And in the end when doing this I had a fun time hang
out with friends. Then learned a thing or two.

For my fall service project, I needed to do something that I had time for due to cross country. At first I didn't realize that garden cleanup would be enjoyable, but me and my friend headed out on the Saturday before fall break and we got to work. This project helped make the garden look nicer and made it easier to walk around on. It definitely helped the community by making the garden a more enjoyable to look and at and experience.
We set out to spread mulch on the area between the entrance to the chicken coop to the walkway behind the shed. Kids before us spread mulch from the coop's entrance to the garden crops. We got two wheelbarrows to get mulch from the big pile in the parking lot, and we moved it into big piles near the areas we needed to fill. Finally we spread the mulch out evenly and made sure all of the ground was covered. It took about two hours to fill in the whole area.

For two hours I shoveled mulch into the wheelbarrows and spread it around in the coop. We spread the mulch over the dirt areas. For the ESLP project, I decided to do the garden clean up. The first day of garden clean up I help clean the sand and made sure that there was no tanbark on the sand or any rocks. Then helped smooth out the sand and then layer the sand. I also worked on the chicken coop I made sure that there was no trash in there and no dug up holes. My group and I got more tanbark to even out the ground and to put fresh new tanbark. This took an hour to do. The next day we were asked to put more tanbark on the outside of the chicken coop.we were also asked to put more tanbark around the tree. The only bad thing about tanbark is that every time we've put more tanbark into the wheel barrel the dust would get in my eye and it was hard to breathe around it. But I still did it anyway, we smoothed the tanbark best as possible. The areas we covered were huge so it took a little longer than we expected.

Garden Cleanup 10/10/18 Seth Ondo
I worked in the WGHS garden for two hours last week, and this is what I did. I scooped up mulch and carried it in wheelbarrows over to the garden. After that I spread out the mulch around the garden so it would cover up all the exposed dirt. I did this on both days that I was working. Doing this would help the chickens move around easier, and also would make the garden look nicer. My work will hopefully help the garden thrive in the future.
