TSOTS Blog Post #6: How Does My Garden Grow ?

The purpose of this science lab in Bio, is to learn the reproductive system of plants. First, I learn the part called the filament in a flower ,which is attached to the Anther. It is crucial in the reproduction flowering of plants. It produces the male gametophyte, known as pollen. This part is easy to break off and is attached to the Anther. Secondly, the tube on the flower is called a Style. The Style leads to the ovary that contains the female egg cells. This part of the flower is good for the pollen and eggs. Also, The Ovary with the ovule which is located near the pollen tube produces the egg cells.

This is another part of the flower name a stamen/style.It is attached to the long, tube-like structure called the style. The style leads to the ovary that contains the female egg cells called ovules. This part of the flower is important for the pollen and eggs.

This is a Ovary with the ovule which is under the pollen tube. The part of the flower produces a egg cell for the purpose of fertilization. All of the eggs from the flower are located in this part of the flower.

This is a stigma located in the middle of the flower. This is where pollen germinates inside. The pollen forms in the stigma and goes down the pollen tube which is name the Pollen Tube.

How do flowering plants (angiosperms) like our Brassica oleracea plants reproduce?

What happened to the plants in my group was they were slowly turning green and then they started to reproduce again its cells and then it just kept growing larger and larger so then we were just observing the plant as it was growing more.

Garden Clean up by Elias garcia

This is the compost pile after (on the second day) we added all the weeds
This time around for the simester project thing, I chose to do garden clean up again. What I did for the gargen is that I made the compost pile a little bigger by adding some of the weeds we cut out of the garden and some of the weeds around the pile. i did that on the first day. on the second day, me and yordi worked on pulling all the bad weeds and some bad plants out of the big patch near all the beds of plants. we also pull some weeds out near the big tree and near the trail. This contribution to the garden was that now there will less weeds in the garden and now thereb is more compost. These are both good because with less weeds in the garden and now there is competiton between plants, also there is more splace for good plants to explad. Makeing more compost is good because now there is matterial to make the plants helthyier.
In this picture, we have the patch we picked most of the weeds out. We also have edrick in the back doing god know what.
I think this is one of the plants we picked out.

Garden Cleanup/ESLP #3 by Edrick Sok

For my ESLP project I did the garden cleanup. For the first hour I had picked out most of the weeds from the pathways. I, also helped with some of the garden beds as well. Any weed that was not needed were to be put into a wheel barrel. The others were thrown into the garden bed, which was used for the soil in the garden beds. The wheel barrel was then taken to the compost area, where I dumped the weeds into the compost. This will provide the worms some food, that would then dispose of the feces inside. For the second hour, I had mostly cut up most of the weeds inside the garden beds, more or less the outside area. Any of the left over weeds were then placed into the wheel barrel, where it would be taken to the compost area. As I continue with the weeds inside the garden beds, I would then take care of the weeds near the tree in the back. I had taken care of some of the weeds in the front of the tree. Then, those weeds were taken to the wheel barrel where I would dump them into the compost area.

ELSP #3

On Thursday March 15 of 2018 Elias, Yordi, Sergio, Miguel, Emiliano, Edwin and me helped Mr. Bursch in the garden. We pulled all the weeds out and we threw them into a cart and we pushed the cart into a small cubical where we dumped it. After we did that we all grabbed some shovels and started to bury it and after we got more weeds and put it on top and we buried it again and we continued to do that for a couple of times till the little cubicle was almost full. The next day which was Friday March 16 of 2018 we came back and we continued to pull the rest of the weeds from the garden. When we were doing that it started to rain which was good for the plants but bad for us but we continued to work and after a while we finished. After that we carefully trimmed a little bit of the grass so it could look nice and that’s all we did for the garden clean up.

Blog Post 7. Grant Spruiell

In the flower dissection lab, I dissected a yellow flower under a 4x magnified microscope. The parts of the flower, shown below. I first pulled a pedal off the flower with a little bit of the stalk, exposing the stigma. I the continued by cutting the stalk away to show the filament and style. Reaching down, I have hit the ovules ovary and pistils

Due to the microscope being very Annoying and the images not functioning normally I could not get actual images. The dissection was quick and somewhat easy. Here are images that are accurately labeled. The images above are of the same family of flowers that I dissected I’m my, well, dissection.

Blog post #4

Blog post #4 Christopher .D Biology 2 Mr.Bursch

Some of the abiotic factors are the soil and the weather conditions around the plant. Some of the biotic factors are the animals and insects interacting with the plant. For example the weather could help the plant grow a lot, or it could slow down the growth. An example of a biotic factor is the bugs in the area of the plant that would eat it. I know that the plants are participating because there are other plants in the same area that need the same things to survive. They are competing for water, sunlight, etc. The competition is the other plants growing in the same area. The 'Winners" are the plants that are able to grow more above the others. It is not always so easy to tell who wins and losses is that they could be growing at a very similar rate to each other. The plants are involved in the water , carbon, and nitrogen cycle. Some plants could be getting more water from the water cycle than others are. The plants were put there and are now growing, but before then were not plants living in that area. It seems more like secondary succession because there was no natural disaster that occurred.
