garden clean up #3

One day after school, me and Nicole worked together to clean up trash from the garden and start weeding the pathways of the garden. That was basically all we did that day. The hour before that, I worked by myself after school and moved some of the fertilizer to put in the garden. In all I worked 2 hours and I actually had fun!! It was a cool experience to help grow these plants and I even leaned about entire new species of plants that we have in that garden. Some of them are even edible. After that me and nicole discussed our future plans with Mr. Bursch about the garden and maybe new plants we could incorporate into the garden and start growing it when it is the right season. I am excited to play a role in a garden that so many High Schoolers help out at. I believe that one day soon the garden can be even bigger and by just 2 years we can add all kinds of new plants and fruits and vegetables to explain our food variety of the garden which I know I, and many other students, will be exited about as well. I went around the garden to pick up trash and it made me so sad how much trash there was just sitting around. This is just one out of the 3 buckets of trash I picked up, which is a lot considering the size of the garden.

That is why I think it is so important to make everyone aware that the garden is a special place that people must respect and be very mindful of. Keeping it clean and nice is important for it to continue growing and become even bigger and better. Reducing trash everywhere is a HUGE message that is being spread world wide, but should continue to be because every person matters in helping make a difference.

After that, I worked with Nicole in weeding the paths. This is more relevant to just keeping it look nicer and neater. Well this may not be making a difference in the actual growth of the plants themselves, it just makes the environment around the garden look nicer, and be much easier to walk through. Also, taking out weeds in gardens is helpful to slow down the spreading of the weeds. All weeds in every garden take water from the actual plants growing. The last water and soil they get, the faster they die. By taking weeds out of the pathways, and the areas of plant growth, this helps each and every plant have more water, more sunlight, and more soil to fully grow and develop.  This is more manual, and harder labor, but it was still nice to dispose of all the weeds which I know is helping all the plants grow.

One of the days I wasn’t here,  Nicole told me about how she worked with mulching.  Which is basically where you cut the grass and put it on top of the plants, which creates a barrier so that no weeds can grow. This is another good method that helps the plants grow more, due tmo lack of weeds in the garden. The last weeds in the garden for better off the plants are.

All in all, I liked my experience with the garden, and I loved her and garden cleanup. Every community service project I’d like to choose garden cleanup, if I can,

Tommy Callahan's Garden Cleanup

This is my first time doing the garden cleanup. I completed the project in two rounds. In the first round, I worked on weeding the plant bed for about an hour. In the second round, I shoveled new dirt into the chicken coop, also for about an hour. This round was a systematic process - First, I shoveled dirt from the huge pile (in the parking lot behind the classroom) into the wheelbarrow. Next, I pulled the wheelbarrow, filled with dirt, all the way to the chicken coop. Finally, I shoveled the dirt from the wheelbarrow and dumped it into the chicken coop, distributing the dirt throughout the coop as evenly as possible. I repeated this process again, with two loads in total. It was a lot of hard labor, but I appreciated how much shoveling I could do in just an hour. In general, it was a fun ESLP experience.

Angel Chavez Garden Clean up part 2.

Day one: First day of garden clean up of part 2 was fun because my job with Hingano was to go
around in all of the gardens around the campus and clean them from anything that's affecting them. I did not know that there was that many gardens on campus. It was a cool experience to help make the school look as good as possible for everyone who is on the school grounds. I did this about for 1 hour and we got to every garden in one day.

Day two: The second day of garden clean up was more stationary because we only stayed at one of the gardens the whole time. We were help cleaning up the garden by pulling out the weeds and sweeping the dirt off of the cement. This time i got to help clean with more friends which was cool. I got the opportunity to work with friends from different classes all at the same time. What was cool was that we even go to touch the chickens and pick them up. This was another day/another hour cleaning up during garden clean up.

Duke Dekowski Garden Cleanup

This is my second time doing the Garden Cleanup. What I did this time is make a layered pile of compost. It went in the order of the dirt first, then grass, then dirt again, then the browns, then I start over. The last time I did this, the weather was really sunny so we had to wet the pile with the hose. Fortunately, since at the time of the cleanup it was winter, there was rain in the weekend so there was no need for the hose. It was hard (especially since I did it myself) but I was able to get the job done.
