Garden Clean Up

(Me after digging hole for sign)
For my service project I put up the garden signs, put mulch in the dirt, and I put up the chicken fence. My jobs were to dig the hole with my friend Royce. This would make it easier to stick the sign in the dirt. Once we covered the bottom of the sign with dirt, Royce held the sign while I hammered it down to get the signa few more inches deep in the ground. The importance of the sign is not only for the garden to look nice, but it's also to help stop people from walking on it.
Then I helped another group put mulch in their part of the campus. After that I then put mulch around our sign. My job was to pour the mulch on the dirt and then spread it around so all of the soil could be covered. This will help imrove the soil's texture and keep it at moderate temperatures.

Lastly, we finally put up the chicken fence. The chicken fence was needed for months and It would've taken days to put it up had we not worked together. My job was to roll out the metal part and to nail some of the wood down. This chicken fence is important because it helps let the chickens roam around free while being in a certain are so no one worries that they'll wonder off.

Garden Clean-Up

Hello, my name is Nick Tsaboukos and for my ESLP I participated in the Garden Cleanup. I did it with 3 other people and it was really cool! Our job was to clean out the shed and reorganize it. We swept out all of the dust/dirt after we took everything out. Then organized everything and put it back. We did 1-day worth 1-hour. Overall the project was a success, and I had a great time doing it.

So what I did of my first hour was picking up  dirt into a wheel barrel to the little chicken farm area and later  put dirt in the students parking lot i did not get pictures of that but today I cleaned the Shea's I have some pictures  I hope I can find how I can upload them onto the web

Garden Clean Up

For my Ecology Service Learning Project, I spent two hours in the garden. During this time I worked to help spread mulch all over various areas (near the chickens and by the Mickey Long Center). The mulch didn't just make the gardens look nicer, but it also had many positive effects. It assists in preventing weeds and other unwanted plant growth, sustaining surface moisture, and creating more fertile soil.

I learned a lot from this experience. Having to shovel and carry mulch in a wheelbarrow is definitely not easy- it required a lot of hard work. I have a newfound appreciation for gardeners and those who are passionate about gardening, because it is definitely more challenging that it looks. Besides that, I also now know that upkeep is just as important as the plants themselves, and is a necessary part of keeping a garden healthy.

ESLP Garden Cleanup - Nate Wright

Hello. My name is Nate Wright. For my Ecology Service Learning Project, I participated in helping clean the school garden. The job I had was to clean out and reorganize the supply shed. We spent some time to clear out the entire shed, pots, fertilizer, wheelbarrows, tools, etc. We then swept out all the dirt, dust and wood chips that had accumulated in there with a push broom. Then we put everything back, but reorganized so everything was stacked in an orderly fashion, and not just strewn all about. Hopefully this will help people utilizing the garden and the shed in the future, so they can get their tools and equipment easier and quicker.

Garden Cleanup

by Mario Diaz

In a span of four days I took several wheelbarrow loads of little chips from a pile to the front of
the chicken coop. I did this 30 minutes each day for four days but I never did this alone --I was joined by great friends of mine Anthony and Esteban. What we would do was get a pair of gloves, shovel and a wheelbarrow. With the wheelbarrow and shovel we would dig up the wood chips until the wheelbarrow was full, then we took the load to right in front of the chicken coop and then we would dump it and spread it around the orange plant. What me and my friends did helped keep moisture in the soil because when it rains the soil keeps the water but then it gets dried up the chips absorb water and then keeps soil from drying up as fast.

Hi my name is iber moreno and or my service project i did the garden clean up. I did t with some friends and it was fun, i did 30 minutes a day to complete 2 hours. My experience with the garden clean up was cool because i learn all about plants and how they produce the protein on  the plant. what i did was pick up the pieces of wood and take then to the plant and dump on them on the plant for the plan can stay strong working in the garden clean up was fun and cool.

Iber, there are no photos of your work and you did not title your post. --Mr. Bursch

Garden Cleanup

For my service project I cleaned the garden with my friends.  My job was to cut the grass and any weeds.  This was to make sure they wouldn't steal the nutrients the kale needed to grow.  After I cut the grass and weeds, I laid them on top of the already cut grass so more would not be able to grow.
Another thing I did with the cut grass was give it to my friend.  She worked on the compost pile and needed grass for it.  Also, I would feed the chickens some too because it was fun to me.  I would work thirty minutes one day the first week, another hour and a half the next week.  We also picked up any trash we saw and put it into a bucket.  The trash would harm the plants by blocking the sun the kale needed to grow too.

Garden Clean-up Project

I came in with my group of friends to clean up the garden for 30 min. each day, close to the chicken coop. In the first day I cut branches off the and cut some weeds with Miranda Kim. It was hard work! But I loved visiting the chickens and helping out the garden. It did look much cleaner than it was before I started!

We all had a great time cleaning up and learning more about the ecosystem. Since Mr. Bursch was teaching us while working. I did Horticulture so it was an add on to this project.

Garden Cleanup

Hi my name is Vanessa , and for my service project I did the Garden Cleanup . I did it with my friends Alexis , Vanessa M , taima , Christian , and more .  I did two hours in total of the Garden Cleanup . I actually really liked doing this project because for one I like to help out with  the environment  ,  secondly it was really fun to do and lastly it was just a simple project .  I filled the gardens around the school with multch , picked some weeds and even more importantly  picked up all the trash that was in the garden . Multch kills all the weeds and used to make the beds more attractive .  Here is a picture of what it looks like.

Garden Clean Up

For my job on garden clean up I spread mulch over the soil. Mulch is used to help the soil sustain a moisture surface, stop weeds from growing, and keeps the soil cool. Organic mulch (the kind that was used) also helps create more fertile soil by decomposing. The mulch is also used to improve the appearance of the garden.

Garden Clean up

For my two hours i was working in the garden . Me and my partner had to fill up a section in the barn full of dead grass , branches , and other things to make compost.I never really knew how hard it is to keep the garden clean and what goes into it to keep it well but after my 2 hours i learned .

before we added the compost

after we added the compost

Making the compost helps the garden because they can use the compost for soil . It helps fill the soil with nutrients to help all the plants grow. It also uses materials that people throw away like rotten food we add some them to the compost instead of throwing them away.

Garden Clean Up

For my 2 hours I was working on adding mulch to the garden near Mickey Long Center. I carried a bunch of mulch that was in a wagon to the building and it was a bit difficult. I never really imagined how hard it would be to take care of a garden. Once I finished for the day my arm was aching for the entire day! Nevertheless, the garden looked much better.

Not only did the mulch make the garden look a lot better it also helps it by preventing weeds and soil moisture. I believe gardens around the school not only look great but are great ideas for school projects. Maybe next semester I'll help by adding to it. In the end, I have much more respect for gardeners because it can be a lot of hard work!
